GreenwichTime.com: Paramedics Pulled from Police Boats Due to LHWCA Coverage Costs


There will be a conspicuous void on Greenwich waters this Memorial Day weekend.
Embedded on marine police boats for the past four years, Greenwich Emergency Medical Service paramedics have been relegated to landlubbers after the workers' compensation insurance carrier for GEMS nixed the practice.
The Workers' Compensation Trust, which is based in Wallingford and provides coverage to health care workers, decided that having a paramedic on the police boat violates the provisions of the Merchant Marine Act of 1920 and the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, according to GEMS... more ...
